Senate Minority Leader James Orengo has defended his remarks about Raila Odinga's 2022 elections, days after his statement caused a stir within Jubilee party.
At a function in Migori on Saturday, a charged Orengo insisted that Raila Odinga will be on ballot in 2022 contrary to the latter's initial statements.
"Raila is going to be on ballot. Those who think he is done are mistaken. Just wait for the shocker of of life. Do not underestimate him."
And his remarks compelled Raila to produce a counter statement to refute the claims which had already gone viral.
But on Monday, the Siaya senator said he does not speak on behalf of Raila and that he was only expressing his opinion.
"I have never been Raila's spokesman so whatever I said are my own views which I am entitled to. People should not pick the remarks and start making political capital out of them."
While Orengo still holds his views, a section of leaders from Jubilee have accused Raila of using handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta to make political capital out of it.
Raila, 73, has had four unsuccessful attempts at presidency and out of those, he has claimed victory in three consecutive elections.
