Siaya senator James Orengo has hailed the new proposed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) reforms saying that they will guarantee free, fair and transparent 2017 elections.

Orengo said that the electoral reforms proposed by the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee and which have already been endorsed by senate and Parliament provides clear frame work on management of elections.

The senator added that Kenyans can be guaranteed of fair elections if the reforms are implemented without being altered.

“The reforms we have proposed in the electoral system are the best and will guarantee fair elections come 2017,” he said during a fund raiser at the African Inland Church (AIC) Bomani in Machakos on Sunday.

Senator Orengo, who was the co-chair of the committee together with the Meru senator Kiraitu Murungi, indicated that if the reforms are implemented within the proposed timeliness, then the country will be on time for the next elections.

The proposed electoral reforms propose a raft of measures in the management of elections.

Speaking in Kisumu on Sunday, Cord leader Raila Odinga called on the government to implement the reforms with haste.

He said that new IEBC commissioners must be in office by the end of the month as proposed by the IEBC report.
