James Orengo has not yet decided his preferred seat for August elections even as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries loom.

The former Ugenya MP is a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga and undoubtedly and evergreen legislator in Kenya.

Although the Siaya senator has expressed his intentions to go for Siaya governorship, it is however understood that he is yet to make a final decision.

On record, Orengo, who is also coordinating chair for the opposition outfit National Super Alliance, paid both for senatorial and governorship at the Orange House.

“I am not sure which seat he is going for although he paid for governorship and senatorial nomination fee,” said a source within Orange House.

The source also confirmed that talks were in advanced stage in which Mr. Odinga is said be closely involved.

“A fact that I know is that he is widely consulting. The party leader is also aware of his plight and would make decision soon,” added the source.

A number of senators among them Hassan Omar (Mombasa), Chris Obure (Kisii), Peter Nyong’o (Kisumu) have already launched their gubernatorial bid.

Should Orengo join gubernatorial race, incumbent Siaya governor Amoth Rasanga could find it difficult to defend his seat.

The former University of Nairobi student leader is also considered one of the top think tanks in opposition politics within the country.
