Senior Counsel James Orengo was the hero to thousands of Raila Odinga supporters during his first tour out of Nairobi in Kisii on Tuesday.
In every stop Odinga made, locals kept chanting pro-Orengo slogans forcing Odinga to allow him speak despite limited time in all stopovers.
A week ago, Orengo led a strong team of lawyers in contesting victory of Uhuru Kenyatta on behalf of Odinga at the Supreme Court, leading to the nullification of the outcome.
For instance, at Kisii town, Odinga was forced to allow Orengo speak despite heavy rains that did not deter locals from parading to listen to the veteran politician.
“We had a strong team of lawyers led by Orengo and Okong’o Mogeni and they are all here. Let me allow them to say something,” said Odinga, on realizing that the crowd wanted to hear from Orengo.
“They tabled all sorts of evidence until Justice David Maraga and the team asked for nothing more,” he added.
In his practice, Friday’s victory at the Supreme Court will remain Orengo’s landmark case he has ever prosecuted and won against all odds.
