Lawyer James Orengo has warned US against ‘external interference’ to Kenya’s electoral systems a day after Ambassador Robert Godec issued a stern warning to opposition ahead of October polls.
Through Godec, President Donald Trump’s administration accused the opposition of sabotaging IEBC through demanding removal of certain officials from the commission among other issues, a move that could further delay elections.
But Orengo maintains that Kenyans have a right to picket against issues they felt were casually handled by authorities.
“The sovereignty of our country is enshrined in the constitution. US should stop poking nose to our internal affairs,” he said, in apparent response to US’s warning against demonstrations.
He added:”In fact, US has her own problems. You have seen the Hurricane in Puerto Rico and the shootings in Las Vegas, I don’t think we are enthusiast to visit their soon.”
In his statement, Godec also demanded that the opposition desist from threatening to boycott elections adding that IEBC should be given free space to conduct polls.
Also in the demands, NASA wants a printing contract awarded to Al Ghurair revoked and the transmission contract that was given to OT – Morpho.
