Orengo currently referred to as “Nyanza political heavyweight” will be assisted by Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga in the battle that targets at disciplining candidates who refused to back aspirants who won during party nominations. The campaign aims at ensuring that no independent candidate wins any elective seat in Siaya, NASA leader Raila Odinga’s home county.During the recently concluded ODM primaries, Orengo only campaigned for two days but managed to floor his opponents by a wide margin. The former Ugenja MP has also been tasked to ensure a high turn out during voting day. He said on Monday he will campaign to ensure ODM wins governor, senator, MP, woman representative and MCA seats in the county.Raila and ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi two weeks ago said they will not support independent candidates. The two said some independents were keen on riding on NASA’s popularity to win seats.Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Siaya town, Rasanga said all ODM nominees will be campaigning in unison to dislodge independent candidates. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has cleared over 1,500 independent candidates to vie for presidential, gubernatorial, senatorial woman rep, MP and MCA positions.
