Lawyer James Orengo now says DP William Ruto is instigating the ongoing police brutality as a tool to silence opposition leaders ahead of 2022 polls.
According to Amnesty International, 33 people have been killed by the police in separate incidents since August 8th, a claim which has since been dismissed by Deputy IG Charles Owino.
But a tough talking Orengo vindicated President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing his deputy of allegedly ‘propelling’ the current political standoff in the country.
“The president is sometimes innocent of this stalemate. The man (Ruto) is keen to silence opposition thinking that it will benefit him in 2022.
“We cannot allow such police brutality to continue just because of one man. We shall be forced to defend ourselves,” he said, reiterating that opposition will not participate in October 26th polls.
Just days after three people were shot dead in Bondo; police yet again shot dead a Form four student in Kisumu, a move that has caused social media outcry.
During his campaigns on Monday, Uhuru maintained that the government will give security to peaceful protesters only.
