A tense meeting held in Siaya senator James Orengo’s office last week resolved to scrap the position of Chief Minister that had been reportedly offered to former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi, reveals a source privy to NASA’s campaign strategy.

In a situation that almost wrecked NASA just before its principals recommended a report by the technical committee, ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani sparked confusion when she admitted that part of the leaked report was true.

And the unfolding events forced Mr. Orengo led committee to retreat and readjust their recommendations ahead of Monday’s retreat in Kilifi, where NAS leaders are set to discuss the report.

“We had to go back to the drawing board after the Kakamega protests. The position of Chief Minister was scrapped off and we created Premier Secretary,” said an MP who sits in the critical committee.

The legislator added: “Work is now done and it is upon them to reject or admit what we had suggested. All we need is an outright victory in August.”

Although the legislator remained non-committal on sharing of positions, The Sunday Nation revealed that Mudavadi would be offered Premier Secretary, which does not need any constitutional amendment.

Until departure for Kilifi, the Nation further revealed that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula had declined the position of National Assembly Speaker and it was still not clear whether he accepted a powerful ministry position.

Last week, Mudavadi’s supporters thronged in the streets of Kakamega insisting that they will accept nothing other than presidency.

However, the committee’s recommendations remained intact that a Raila-Kalonzo ticket was the most preferred.
