Senate Minority leader James Aggrey Orengo has called for the observation of the rule of law and respect of constitutional offices, in order for the fight against corruption to become effective.
Orengo who doubles up as Siaya County Senator, noted that fighting corruption must begin with the highest level of government, in collaboration with other constitutional offices.
“The fight against corruption in the county has become seasonal, with action only being taken when issues blow out of proportion,” said the second term senator.
He said corruption needs a firm hand to effectively deal with it, rather than giving sanctions. He warned parliament against covering institutions and individuals implicated in corruptions cases.
Senator Orengo was speaking in Rarieda constituency Siaya County, during a funds drive in aid of a church over the weekend.
Area Member of Parliament (MP) Otiende Amollo insisted that the fight against corruption will only succeed once the rule of law is upheld and decisions made as per the constitution.
The two leaders spoke as investigations continue following corruption scandals in the National Youth Service (NYS), National Irrigation Board (NIB), National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) and the Kenya Power and Lightening Company (KPLC) among others.
