According to a Kisii based non-governmental organisation, Live in Love representative, Hellen Brown, the numbers of the street children in the town are worrying since currently there are approximately 2000 children and adults on the streets who don’t have a place to call home. She said there was need to identify the main reason as to why the number is increasing yet the county government has partnered with many children’s home in the county to end the menace.

“When we first established our children’s home at Nyanchwa two years ago, there was about 1000 street families and currently they stand at 2000 and if the trend continues we fear that even the insecurity will rise in the town,” she said.

She, however, urged other well-wishers to chip in since there was no financial provision to support the operations at the centre. She pointed out that the organisation currently has over 300 children they are taking care of and they expect to increase the numbers as years goes by.
