Uhai Lake Forum has stepped up forums to ensure the lakeside city of Kisumu remains peaceful as the country goes to the polls in August.
The chairman of the organization Adhiambo Lomo said they have held meetings in the border of Kisumu County with other communities.
Lomo said in Kisumu the youth have been used by politicians to cause chaos.
“We have seen in the past how our youth have been misused by politicians. We want to stop that through awareness creation,” he said.
He said the forums they are holding have brought on board different stakeholders including the youth to chart the way forward for a peaceful city.
Speaking during the forum in Kisumu on Tuesday, Lomo called on young people to shun violence and keep off politicians who incite them to violence.
He said that Kisumu is the heart of Nyanza region and efforts have been put in place to curtail some of the bad deeds associated with politics.
“Other places in Nyanza always look out to see what happens in Kisumu, when there is violence in Kisumu you see other towns in the region starting to follow that, we must reverse the trend,” he said.
