The live broadcast debate involving running mates of eight presidential candidates might be off, after Jubilee’s William Ruto and NASA’s Kalonzo Musyoka said they would not participates.
Majority of the candidates have also failed to confirm participation, casting a shadow of doubt on the highly hyped debate that was to take place before the elections.
The debate, which is scheduled for today, Monday, at the Catholic University, was to host all presidential running mates.
The organisers have been blamed for ‘poor communication’, with the participants saying they learnt of the debate from the media.
NASA Chief Executive Norman Magaya said there had been no formal communication from the organisers.
Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa on Sunday said he had been asked to represent the DP during the debate, adding that Ruto was busy with campaigns at the coast, but revealed that he had not been contacted.
“I have not communicated to the organisers, nor have they communicated to me," said Ichung'wa.
Debates Media Limited chairman Wachira Waruru said the debate was on schedule and would go on as planned.
“Preparations are on course. We are hoping they will turn up for the debate,” said Waruru.
