Bondeni Children Rescue Centre has received early Christmas donations from the leadership of the Mavoko Law Courts.

A team of high judiciary personnel from the Athi River-based law courts visited the home on Thursday under the leadership of Resident Magistrate, Linda Mumassabba.

Addressing this reporter at the home during the visit, Mumassaba said the trip had been organised by the Mavoko Law Courts' Court Users Committee though spearheaded by the leadership of the court.

Mumassabba said the team included advocates, a probation officer, a state counsel, a children officer, community policing representatives and general members of the public all from the region.

She said they visited the home to celebrate with them in advance given that they were vulnerable and needed support, love and care.

"These children are vulnerable and need to be helped, loved, recognised and supported. Their hearts need to be positively touched by privileged members of the society," said Mumassaba.

She commended the home for its sterling performance and commitment to rescuing, protecting and nurturing orphans and vulnerable children who had no one to turn to, hence helpless.

She, however, warned child perpetrators from the region that their days were numbered hence needed to desist from infringing rights of the child.

Mumassaba said though there were high rates of child defilement and cases of truant boys and girls in the region, child defilement cases had generally reduced since Mavoko Law Courts was established in 2012.

She said the court users committee will conduct several outreach programs across the sub-county beginning early next year to sensitise communities on the need to protect children and respect their rights alongside consequences of child exploitation and molestation.
