The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has fully sponsored the education of an orphaned girl, Dorcas Mercy who scored 337 marks in 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in Kisumu.
KFCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Ezekiel Mutua disclosed that Mercy was destined for Bishop Dinga high school in Ukambani courtesy of KFCB as part of its corporate social responsibility which targets young talented youths from poor background.
Dr. Mutua made the revelation today when he toured Manyatta Youth Development Center in Kisumu County where Mercy has been supported through primary education.
“Art can change a nation as opposed to ugly incidents like stone throwing and other vices associated with youth unemployment but be turned around by engaging in meaningful income generating activities”, Mutua observed.
Dr. Mutua pledged that KFCB has adopted the center not only as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) but bringing Cinema Mashinani to the grassroots to help nurture abundant talent in this region.
KFCB was on a nationwide public sensitization campaign in Western and Nyanza, he stated, having been to Kisii University for a public lecture in collaboration with Kenya Youth Enterprise Fund.
“In kakamega County, we teamed up with the church leadership to promote moral values. This was after we discovered that a lot of gambling activities was going on there even among children”, he explained.
Dr. Mutua praised parents and Religious leaders for having played a key role during such sensitization, singling out Manyatta Youth Center where the founder, Antony Obala played a pivotal role to support numerous talents.
