The government through the department of children services has released Sh3.1 million to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) living in Borabu sub-county to cushion them from poverty.
Area Children’s Officer Michael Nyabera said the fund will benefit over 800 households who are living with OVCs who had earlier been identified by the department for allocation of cash.
“Every household with OVCs will be given Sh4,000 to cater for the months of March and all year long," he added.
Nyabera was speaking early this morning when he visited Salimi Children's Home in Nyansiongo ward where he said that the county government has helped in improving the living status of the orphans.
The official added that the funds had already been disbursed to all beneficiaries within the eight locations in the sub-county.
He called on parents and guardians to spend the money sensibly for the benefit of the children under their care adding that those who will not adequately address the welfare of the children will be struck from the list of beneficiaries.
“The money should be used to improve the lives of the children. Any guardian who will divert the money for selfish gain would not benefit in future,” he warned.
