More than 300 orphans under Ring Road Ministries Schools have benefited from early Christmas gifts of foodstuffs.
The pupils who hail from various sub-counties in Kisumu County were given maize flour, rice, cooking fat, beans among others as they closed for the long holidays.
The ministries director, Jared Oriadha, said the pupils, mostly orphans and from less privileged homes benefited from the initiative.
Oriadha said that as the schools close, it may be difficult for the children to get food thus the need to give them some.
“Our pupils get their breakfast, lunch and supper from the school. When we close, it gets difficult and that is why we are giving them enough food to last them for some time,” he said.
Oriadha said pupils will also be distributed with new school uniforms when schools re-open in January next year.
“We have hope that the foods we have distributed will enable the pupils to enjoy Christmas,” he said.
The director announced that he has allocated Sh 3 million for next year’s school fees to students in secondary schools in the County, adding that more food will be given to people living with HIV and AIDs under their health programme today.
Oriadha disclosed that over 120 other people will benefit from food for early Christmas like other Kenyans.
“We have a component of health where we register people living with HIV and AIDs. They will also benefit from these food rations,” he said.
