Speaking during the launch of Shiners Day Care on Friday, County Executive Committee for Education, Sports and Culture Ms Jennifer Kere said that the county government is ready to help in providing learning materials for the centre. "I am in charge of ECD in the county and I believe that in consultation with nominated MCA Caroline Ogot we can support education for the children," said Kere. "If a child doesn't feed well it even affects brain development," she said.

She, however, urged parents to be cautious of rampant cases of rape in the county. "There are rampant cases of children falling victims of rape. Kisumu is leading in cases of children being defiled," said the CeC for Education, Sports and Culture.

Nominated MCA Caroline Ogot encouraged parents to take children to school adding that education is the key to success. Shiners centre has a farm that provides food for the children. Most of them are orphans from Obunga slum. Kolwa Central MCA Calvin Oraro urged the community members to take advantage of free education and take their children to school.

Present during the launch of the centre were Kisumu MCAs Pamela Oyoo, Pamela Odhiambo and Kolwa Central Chief Elijah Mumbo.
