Over 170 orphans were on Wednesday evening treated to an Iftar dinner organized by the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa County Branch.
The Orphans from Swabur Children’s home, Lady of Mercy Children’s home in Mikindani and Mtongwe Children’s Home were treated to different Swahili delicacies.Speaking at the Mtongwe Children’s Home, Mombasa branch Red Cross Welfare Officer Mr Raffiq Rauff said it was a call from God to serve the less fortunate especially during the Holy month of Ramadan.“As a humanitarian organization, we could not spend the Holy month of Ramadan better than sharing a meal with the less fortunate families in Mombasa. We are blessed by doing this,” he said.The organization also donated shoes to the children.On his part, the Kenya Red Cross Mombasa branch Chief officer Rajab Said Mohammed said the programme was conducted annually to ensure they mark the Holy month by helping the needy in the society.Rajab appealed to the business community, locals and well-wisher in Mombasa to donate various items to the organization to enable them reach a bigger percentage of the less fortunate.Zahra Mwalimu, the owner of Swabur Children’s thanked the humanitarian organization for the support and appealed to well-wishers to help her manage the home.Swabur children’s home has 53 orphans; Lady of Mercy in Mikindani houses 70 orphans, while Mtongwe has 43 children.
