This program is a partnership between the NHIF and the Ministry of labor, social security and services through the Kisii County children’s services department.

Speaking on Monday at Sameta during the NHIF registration exercise, Mrs Grace Omachae a representative NHIF revealed that the government had selected four locations within Kisii County targeting 500 households for as pilot before rolling out the program to the rest of the County.

“This exercise was launched in April 2015 and is already taking place in other counties but on a trial basis while resources are mobilised for the full implementation of the health insurance subsidy program,” said Omache an NHIF official.

She added that through the help of the children’s department, the subsidy program is initially targeting 500 households with orphans and vulnerable children who will benefit from subsidized medical cover.

Mrs Omache further advised the selected households to the pick nearest hospital facilities that are accredited by the NHIF while considering the distance to the facility so as not to incur transport costs.
