Kisumu county government is set to establish an orthopedic and trauma center within the county to handle emergency cases.
Governor Ranguma on Tuesday said due to many boda boda accidents, he noticed there were many orthopedic cases at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital which had forced them to extend to another ward.
“I have made a conscious decision to establish an orthopedic and trauma center to help these cases,” he said during his visit to the facility during a free medical treatment that was held there.
He said so many people have been dying slowly because they cannot afford the private medication hence promised to talk to his colleagues in neighboring counties to help in equipping the hospital under the inter-governmental arrangement.
Kisumu Consultant and Orthopaedic surgeon Dr James Obondi called on the Kisumu county government to embrace private public partnerships to build a modern trauma facility.
Dr Obondi said the center will improve trauma treatment among patients thereby reducing deaths by more than 50 per cent.
“We welcome the plan to have a trauma unit so that we can serve our patients well,” he added.
He said the unit will cater for victims of accidents, fires and other trauma incidents in the region.
