The highly publicised Obomo Bwomogusii merger that saw leaders from Kisii County convene at Otamba grounds to come up with common stand on political way forward of the community which was dubbed Otamba declaration may be dead on arrival, a source has revealed.
Under the initial deal, Senator Chris Obure was to be Governor, Charles Nyachae Senator, and Joash Maangi to retain his current position of Deputy Governor.
However, according to the source, Mr Nyachae has since withdrawn the from Senatorial race and is reportedly pushing former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara to replace him and has gone ahead to propose Mr Peter Opande from his backyard for Deputy Gubernatorial post, a reason why Maangi is reportedly unhappy.
“The unity is dead on arrival because of many personal differences. Nyachae is set to be in the IEBC according to State House plan and that has caused divisions because he wants Omingo to replace him on his preferred Senatorial post and has gone ahead to endorse Opande for Deputy Governor,” said the source.
“His plan seems to have gone against the wishes of Mr Maangi who has already opposed the move. He feels undermined by Nyachae team and been protesting in the recent days,” the source added.
However, Mr Maangi on a telephone conversation on Friday refuted any disunity among the team and insisted that they will reach an amicable solution soon.
“We do not have differences as its being propagated and the small issues about our next course are being discussed. We remain a strong team and our critics seem to be scared,” he said.
Till the time of going to press, Nyachae could neither pick calls nor respond to texts but the source insisted that he had been given an offer to be in the incoming electoral team.
