Social media users have turned their onslaught on Kisii leaders who have been pushing for Omogusii unity, hours after the leaders led by Kisii Senator Chris Obure announced their plans of having a common political party.

The unity has received resistance from a section of leaders both from Nyamira and Kisii counties even as the pioneers of the movement defended their decision to unite the community.

But social media users have been unkind to the pioneers with a number of them coining a term ‘Tumbocrat’ to refer to the leaders’ alleged selfish interests.

“We are beyond cheap politics of hoodwinking Gusii people. The likes of Obure and Joash Maangi have nothing new to offer to the community other than engaging in tumbocratic politics. The unity is unwelcome and should be avoided like a plague,” said Tony Nyandemo on Facebook.

“We cannot talk of unity yet there is no disunity among the Omogusii. Some of these leaders have serious pending cases on economic crimes and they want to hide in Jubilee for protection. We are beyond Tumbocratic politics and in case they are eyeing money, let them do without involving the community,” added Venah Nyaboke.

Some users have demanded that Mr Obure be investigated on the role he played in the infamous Goldenberg scandal and Mr Richard Onyonka to be brought to book on alleged smuggling of sugar to the country.

“People like Obure should explain to us about Goldenberg while the likes of Onyonka are hiding from prosecution of sugar smuggling. There names that have been adversely mentioned so they should clear their names before calling for Omogusii unity,” added Obed Otachi.

The term Tumbocrats is used by a majority of local youths to refer to people who are ‘hungry’ and does all they can for their own sustainability.
