The recent Omogusii unity dubbed Otamba declaration is strong and will unite members of Omogusii community, a number of its pioneers have insisted.
Senator Chris Obure guided several other leaders mainly from Kisii County to announce plans of uniting the Abagusii community ahead of 2017 polls, a move that has not been received well with a number of leaders from Nyamira County.
And on Thursday in a closed-door meeting at Kisii town, the pioneers of the movement insisted that the Otamba declaration was stronger than ever and vowed to reach all leaders for consultations.
“We started a good course that should not be dismissed by any leader who wants Gusii region to develop. We are tired of segregations by governments and we cannot allow it anymore. The Otamba declaration is stronger than ever,” said Obure.
“This is about Omogusii unity and has nothing to do with our selfish interests or political positions as some people are purporting. We want a common party from which we can have a bargaining power,” added Deputy Governor Joash Maangi.
Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka challenged leaders who had not joined the movement to do so or risk losing their seats in 2017.
“It’s either you are with Omogusii or you lose it. We cannot be puppets of other tribes from other areas,” he said.
Also those present included Elijah Moindi (Nyaribari Masaba), Richard Tongi( Nyaribari Chache), Stephen Manoti (Bobasi) , Joel Onyancha (Bomachoge-Borabu) and former CIC Chair Charles Nyachae.
