Funyula MP Paul Otuoma has criticised the Salaries and Remuneration Commission's decision to slash salaries and allowances for top government officials.
Speaking on Tuesday, the lawmaker accused the commission's chair Sarah Serem of arriving at the bold decision without prior consultations with stakeholders.
“Before even the current team of SRC personnel came into the helm, there existed a team that sat down and assessed all scenarios and saw the need for MPs to be given certain allowances," he said.
"Sarah Serem and her team cannot just make amendments to the salary structure without consulting every stakeholder. Their decisions are totally unreasonable,” he added.
The decision by SRC could see a president earn Sh1,443,750 from Sh1,650,000. Govenors will now take home Sh924,000 from Sh1,056,000.
MPs’ salaries have been fixed at Sh621,250 and their plenary sitting allowances removed.
