President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee administration is heavily investing in campaigns in opposition strongholds.
This came to the limelight when Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto led a host of MPs in touring the Coast region less than two months after making inroads in the counties of Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi. Cord enjoys huge support in Coast.
Lately, the ruling coalition has began venturing into the Western region.
On Saturday, Water Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa was in Kakamega and Busia counties commissioning water projects.
Of the four counties constituting the former Western Province, Busia and Kakamega are perceived to be devolved units where ODM party leader Raila Odinga enjoys massive support.
But let's focus on Busia for now.
Busia has six constituencies; Teso North represented by Arthur Odera (URP), Teso South (Mary Emase, URP), Nambale (John Bunyasi, UDF), Matayos (Godfrey Odanga, ODM), Butula (Michael Onyura, Federal Party of Kenya, Funyula (Paul Otuoma (Funyula, ODM and Budalang'i (Ababu Namwamba, ODM).
Of the seven, the Cord coalition controls five while Jubilee controls only two; Teso North and South.
However, recent developments in Busia where Ababu and Otuoma hinted they had departed from ODM pointed that Jubilee was out to reap from the fall-out between the two and the party through which they sailed to Parliament.
There were clear indications that the two were headed to Jubilee after forming a movement; 'Third Force' which they said aimed at uniting the Luhya community ahead of 2017.
This did not last long as one of the proponents of the movement, Sirisia MP John Waluke decamped to the newly launched Jubilee Party led by Uhuru leaving Ababu and Otuoma.
On Saturday, Otuoma at the burial of former Gor Mahia and Harambee Stars goalkeeper James Sianga made it clear that he had not left ODM and that he was still the party's deputy chairman.
The announcement meant Ababu remained alone in the 'Third Force' movement.
If what political analysts say is anything to go by, then Jubilee has slim chances of securing votes in the county.
Bear in mind that even in Teso North and South where Ruto's URP party scooped two Parliamentary seats, Mr Odinga garnered close to 90 percent of the votes at presidential level in 2013.
Perhaps this is why CS Wamalwa visited the county on Saturday.
