Auditor-General Edward  Ouko has said that he will begin a probe against governors who have been accused of misappropriation of county funds.

The State Financial Auditor reported that governors will account for every single spending done and those found culpable of crime will pay the ultimate price.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Ouko said that he is determined to ensure that all the allocated funds from the National Treasury to counties are spending accordingly to improve peoples' welfare.

''We are going to mount a very tough audit over the accused Governors who are reported to have misused public funds. We are going to do it in an informed manner and each governor must provide us with a very comprehensive account of his spending,'' he said

The first whip seems to be falling on the former Nakuru County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua who according to Ouko is accused of embezzling huge amount of money when he was in the office and up to now the funds cannot be accounted how it was spent.
