Maina cited that majority of the women refrained from seeking legal advice, as they thought it was disrespectful and intimidating.

“Women have a right to own land. However, in most cases, they have been led to believe that challenging any rule that saw them being denied land is criminal and this should stop,” said Maina

“We need to start empowering women and we will do so every time anyone approaches our office to do so,” she added.

Maina lamented over the increased cases of women being thrown out of their land fraudulently.

“We have seen cases of fraud and majority of the women have been conned out of their possession. This should stop. We are ready to help the women reposes their land and if need be we will give them all support them in courts,” she added.

Maina also called on the women to acquire property and have it registered in their name, to avoid future wrangles.

“Majority of the women are thrown out of their land as soon as their husbands die, simple because the title deeds read their husbands name. Majority of the in-laws often take it as an initiative to chase them out, which is very unfair,” she added.
