In a Thursday press conference, the elections officials said they are open for meaningful discussions with Cord leaders.

They accused Cord of waging a smear campaign against them since the 2013 general election.

“What we are seeing now is the culmination of a 3 year smear campaign by Cord. Most of what you hear about IEBC is not from us. They should come for civil discussions, storming the commission is not the way to go about it if they have grievances,” Chairman Issack Hassan said.

The IEBC boss said they won't resign amid threats from opposition leaders.

Hassan said threatening IEBC commissioners is an electoral offense and that they will update the public continuously on their progress as far as preparations for 2017 general polls are concerned.

He rubbished claims that Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits that were used in the one-month long registration exercise failed.

He said only hand-held devices used to verify voter identity (EVID) failed, because of late procurement and lack of power.

A section of Cord MPs led by ODM Chairman John Mbadi Wednesday reiterated the opposition's plan to camp at IEBC offices every Monday until they resign.

In an interview with NTV on Wednesday evening, ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohammed said Cord will constitute a parallel electoral body if the Hassan led Commission will not resign.
