Thika Business District Association’s peaceful protests were almost cut short in what protestors claimed were politicians hijacking their mission.
The leaders of the protests planned only to demonstrate for a very short time before reading out the memorandum to the traders and then handing over the situation to the county government
Some minutes after the protests begun a pickup loaded with a powerful public address system arrived announcing that the MP would be around in a few minutes to join the protesters.
The protests leaders were shocked as they were liable for any damages that could be incurred during the protest
The protest despite being ‘hijacking’ attempt the peace prevailed when the Thika police in conjunction with other police officers from Kenya Prisons Thika, Riuru police station, Makongeni and Kiambu police station provided security and calmed the protestors in case of any breach of peace during the protests.
The MP has however promised to help the residents to fight for their rights and the protests were peaceful.
The previous protests in thika were marked by looting and property damage – protest leaders hoped to avoid this in an effort to prove the process of protests as mature and important.
