Nyando MP Fred Outa has called parents to ensure they purchase school books for their children.

Outa said educating a child needs sacrifice and parents should not run away from their role.

He said children should be given everything they require in school to enable them perform well in class.

The MP said the government announced free education but very little is on the ground to enable children get quality education.

“Let parents not think that since education is free that they should not take part in the learning of their children,” he said.

Speaking on Sunday during a funds drive for Ranjira Secondary School in aid of purchasing books for the school library, Outa said for children to get quality education, parents must sacrifice for them.

He announced that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been well utilised in the constituency to uplift educational infrastructure.

Outa said during his tenure he used the fund to establish more secondary schools and put up classrooms in the existing schools.

“Nyando is doing well in terms of educational facilities in both primary and secondary schools. We have provided an enabling environment for children to learn. It is upon teachers and students to pass the examinations,” he said.
