Villagers at Kipsaina in Kitale have called on law enforcement agencies to probe an incident where a man killed his nephew over claims the nine-year-old boy had asked for school fees help from the suspected killer.
Parents who spoke to a local radio station after the incident said it was wrong for the 27-year-old man to commit such an offence even if he knew he would not help the primary school boy.
Police on Thursday descended on the home of Gideon Ole Ntai and arrested him shortly before outraged villagers could lynch him.
According to an eyewitness, Felix Limo, the deceased is claimed to have gone to his uncle to seek for financial help as schools are set to re-open for the second term.
The two spent the night at Ole Ntai's home and on the morning of Thursday, Ntai is said to have left home for his normal duties in the neighbourhood only to return home in the evening to confront the nephew.
He is said to have hit the deceased several times on the head using a hoe. The nine-year-old boy died on the spot.
The suspected killer uncle was arrested and is being detained at the Kitale Police Station as investigations continue.
The deceased's body was taken to the Kitale Referral Hospital Mortuary.
"No one should bank on problems to kill. We should learn to hand our challenges maturely," Limo said.
