An outbreak of foot and mouth disease for livestock in Uasin Gishu County has been put under control.
CeC in charge of Agriculture and Livestock Cyril Cheruiyot says everything is in order therefore no cause of alarm.
“I want to assure Uasin Gishu farmers that our officers have fought disease through vaccination and its now out of the county,” he said in Eldoret town,Thursday during the 6th University of Eldoret Agribusiness Trade fair.
“I call upon farmers to vaccinate their animals for them to build their immunity against the disease. We will take stringent measures to ensure no cases of foot and mouth disease will be reported in our county in the years to come,” he added.
He reiterated that extension services officer are going round sensitizing farmers on the dangers, how to prevent and treatment of animals suspected to have foot and mouth.
He, however, warned farmers against transporting their animals without following the laid down procedures by the county government since it’s the major cause of the disease.
“Any farmer transporting his animals from one county to another without a permit will be arrested and charged on the same,” noted Cheruiyot.
Soy Constituency was badly affected by the disease.
