[Photo| Courtesy]Hundreds of passengers have been left stranded at the Kisumu bus park a day after the government banned night travel for long distance PSV buses.Through the NTSA and Traffic Department, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure banned ferrying of passengers during the night following a fatal road accident at Migaa area, Nakuru county.The December 31, 3 am accident involving a Nairobi Bus PSV and a trailer left at least 36 people dead and several others seriously injured.Passengers in Kisumu lamented that the government ought to have consulted with stakeholders before imposing the ban since many had booked night vehicles for traveling.One passenger who was travelling to Mombasa from Homa Bay with his family missed a vehicle saying he would be forced to sleep in the town until Tuesday. "I came and found no vehicle going to Mombasa. All vehicles left early so as to make it to Nairobi before night. Now I'll be forced to sleep here with my wife and kids. This is very expensive," he lamented.Many complained saying it had become too costly for them given that buses had hiked fares to Nairobi from Sh1,000 to Sh2,000 or Sh2,500.A staff with Mash Poa buses accused the government of failing to consult stakeholders before imposing the ban."Vehicles are now rushing during the day. They're now very few since many are leaving early in the morning. This will also affect people travelling with big families including students going back to school," he said, Monday afternoon.The bus park had handful of vehicles which were already full at around 1 pm.
