With a determination to eradicate Malaria in Mombasa by the year 2021, officers and medics from County's Department of Health Sub County Administration and stakeholders engaged in a consultative meeting with "Malaria No More", an NGO that aims to end Malaria deaths.

Led by Health CeC Hazel Koitaba, participants were sensitized and deliberated on the current prevalence of malaria in Mombasa and the need for the public support in fighting the disease.

Koitaba said Malaria prevalence currently stands at 7% in Mombasa and continues to be a public health concern especially for expectant women and children under 5-years. 

According to the World Malaria Report 2017, each case of Malaria is estimated to cost Kenya’s health system Sh10,000 and leads to 4 to 10 missed work or school days.

Also present during the meeting were County Public Health Chief Officer - Aisha Abubakar, Malaria Control Coordinator - Fatma Dume and Malaria No More Advocacy Specialist - Zeba Siaanoi.

Among partners who attended the meeting include Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Residents Associations.
