Nairobi Eastlands largest road could be heading for a disaster after residents turned a section of it into a dumpsite.
Residents from neighbouring estates are now dumping all their domestic garbage at the road in what could degrade its quality and efficiency.
It has been reported that garbage collectors from Donholm, Buru Buru and Kariobangi are using it as a cheaper option of dumping instead of transporting garbage to the official Dandora dumpsite.
Road users are also littering the grass cover that was planted by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) in an effort to beautify the environment.
According to Kura spokesperson John Cheboi, maintenance and sanitation of the road lie with the Nairobi county government.
“Our job was to build the road; what comes after is up to the county,” said Mr Cheboi.
