Kenyans have expressed unbridled outrage at reports that a county hospital refused to attend to a teenager who was raped for eight hours.

Media reports indicate that the 17-year old girl, an orphan, was not examined by a hospital in Kisume because she could not raise 30 shillings for a card.

It is only after the involvement of people of goodwill that she was treated but many people have expressed fear that the delay may have to the tampering of crucial evidence.

The police have also been roundly criticised for failing to investigate the gut-wrenching rape even after the victim identified her assailants to them.

She was waylaid by men on a motor-bike who threatened her with a knife before raping her in turns.

''When I screamed, they placed a knife on my neck and threatened to kill me if I made more noise.'' She told the Standard newspaper.
