Following the latest ranking that was conducted to determine the best performing counties ahead of the annual Devolution conference, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua beat Kisumu's Anyang' Nyong’o to emerge the best, with approval rating of 86.4% compared to Nyong'o's 82.1%.
In the ranking, Nyong'o emerged fifth after Mutua and three other Governors.
This did not go down well with a majority of Kisumu residents who noted that Nyong'o should have come first and the rest follow.
“This is not welcome news. Kisumu County should always lead. We look upon our governor to go after Raila as the president. Scoring fifth position is reason enough to worry. A good rating is what we need,” noted Steve Neto.
They asked the governor to work extra hard so that he secures position one in the next rating.
“We want Kisumu County to shine. This is the county where most professors come from and coming 5th in not welcomed at all. We are the academic giants in the region and we should always lead,” said Lorence Owuoro.
A section of the residents noted that Kisumu was ranked fifth, because of corruption within the county.
“Our county government is slowly being taken away by cartels that will ruin it1. I am even surprised that the governor was able to secure a 5th position despite the many corruption scandals. I expected worse,” Ezekiel Outa said.
“We hope next time to see Kisumu as the top county in the list or we risk never seeing the presidency. People cannot trust you to lead the country if you can’t manage a county,” Mirriam Ochoa opined.
A few were, however, satisfied with the results and congratulated Nyong'o for the good work.
"It is not so bad when you compare with the number of counties in Kenya. Being number 5 of all the counties is encouraging though we deserve more," said Mary Achieng.
