More than 366 Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in Mavoko Sub County of Machakos County have benefited from OVC cash transfer program.
The children who were represented by their caretakers received Sh 4, 000 each in cash from the State through the Postal Corporation of Kenya for the months of July and August this year.
Speaking during the launch in Athi River, the sub county children officer, Faith Kamau said it was the first time the programme was being implemented in the region.
She warned caregivers against taking advantage of the vulnerable children to mismanage the funds either for benefits of their own children or themselves.
Mavoko MP Patrick Makau lauded the national government for supporting members of the public through various initiatives in a bid of empowering them socio- economically.
He however called on the government to increase the amount of allocation to enable each child receive Sh 8, 000 monthly instead of 2,000 due to high cost of living and inflation rate.
He advised the children caregivers to open bank accounts with Post Bank to ease payment process and safe guard the money as they would be able to plan for it once in their accounts.
