Over 150 students from the Eldoret's Moi University were arrested for allegedly attending a birthday party at an illegally operated bar in Eldoret town on Friday evening.
Police who nabbed the students also arrested the owner of the entertainment joint located along the busy Oloo Street.
The law enforcers said the students were found senselessly drunk and unruly.
They have been detained in Eldoret Police Station.
The Uasin Gishu County government has been running an operation that entails closing all bars unlawfully operating in Eldoret town.
The county government claims the illegally operated bars sell second generation liquor.
The university's students' leader, Moses Tisa, according to Radio Jambo has asked the police to release the students on bond pending the hearing of their case if cops will press any charges against them.
Meanwhile, the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has asked the Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed to appoint a Vice Chancellor for the institution claiming important operations at the university have been paralyzed because of unstable leadership.
Moi University UASU Chairman Jack Abok says the institution's acting Vice Chancellor Prof Laban Ayiro has worked at the position for a long time making him not to work effectively.
Abok said the appointment a Vice Chancellor will will enable normal operation resume and create a "friendly teaching and learning environment".
