[A Kenyan citizen being registered as a voter. Photo/the star]Independent Electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC) has registered 1,521 Kenyans living in East and South Africa, according to IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Of the five countries targeted, South Africa produced (665) new voters, Tanzania had (361) voters, Uganda (247) electorates,Rwanda (201) voters and Burundi (47) electorates.

A total of 789 transfers were reported; Tanzania (298), Uganda (147), Rwanda (169), Burundi (42) and South Africa (142), while 373 Kenyan citizens changed their particulars.

The registration exercise which kicked off on February 20 and ended on March 6, was carried at the Kenyan High Commissions and Consulates in the named countries.  

The Kenyan diaspora electorates will only be allowed to vote for the president.
