Over 1 million trees are expected to be planted in Bahati Sub County, Nakuru County, by the end of this year. Menengai Geothermal Development Company plans to involve the local schools in a reforestation programme in the region. Speaking during launch of the programme at Jomo Kenyatta High School, company’s Public Relations Officer Ruth Musembi said they would also involve youths in the project. “We have entered into agreements with all schools both secondary and primary to be involved in this programme. We wish to contribute largely in reforestation of Bahati and Dundori forests and also encourage planting of trees in schools and other public institutions in Bahati,” said Musembi. She noted that it was the company’s corporate responsibility to take an active role in environmental conservation and involving young people, will be contributing towards mentoring them into responsible citizens who love their environment and have a desire to fight for its protection. She said the company has established tree nurseries in various parts of the sub county and other areas around it that will supply tree seedlings for the project.
