Over 20 schools have confirmed participation in this year's Maseno School annual sports festival this weekend.

The school's games teacher Dennis Ayieko said the event has attracted national secondary schools defending champions in various disciplines.

"It will be fireworks especially in rugby and basketball," said Ayieko, who added that the tournament will be used as build-up for National secondary schools Term One games. Among the schools that have confirmed their participation are Shimba Hills, St. Joseph's Kitale, Nakuru High, Cheptil High, Hospital Hill, Lenana School, St. Anthony, Kitale, Cardinal Otunga, Mosocho, Chesamis, Obambo mixed among others.

"Kampala International and Kisubi School from Uganda will also participate in the event," Ayieko confirmed. All the defending tournament champions in various events have also confirmed their participation.

They include hosts Maseno School (rugby 10 aside), Malava Girls (volleyball) St. Peter's Nakuru (handball boys), Eregi TTC (handball girls), Obambo (netball), Eregi TTC (soccer girls), Nyamira Girls (hockey), St. Anthony Kitale (hockey), Kisumu Lakers (basketball boys) and Tigoi Girls (basketball).

The event is to be sponsored by Mumias Sugar Company, Menengai Oil Refineries, Nairobi Sports House and Brookeside Dairy among others.

The events to be featured include Rugby 10 a side, basketball, hockey, handball, soccer, volleyball, netball, lawn tennis, badminton and table tennis.
