Over 200 students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at the Kisumu Girls’ High School this year will join Public Universities next year.

285 students sat for the exam at the school this year, where 18 scored A minus, 39 B plus, 64 B plain, 47 B minus, 61 C plus, 36 C plain, 14 C minus, and 6 D plus.

This means 229 students will join universities next year after getting University entry grade of C plus and above. Last year, 223 students got university entry grades at Kisumu Girls’.

The Schools’ deputy Principal in charge of academics Sarah Ong’ola said that hard work and discipline from students, dedication from teachers and cooperation from parents enabled them to get the results they worked for, and they are very proud.

In an interview with Hivisasa.com in her office on Thursday, Madam Ong’ola said that they would have performed even better had it not been an electioneering year.

“From the start, we told our students not to mind what was happening during campaigns. But sometimes our students were affected especially during demos. At times we stopped the learning process when police used teargas to quell demonstrations,” she said.

Kisumu Girls’ High School is located along the busy Kisumu-Kakamega Road, opposite the Kisumu Bus Park.

The School was ranked 58th nationally in the 2017 KCSE results. In Kisumu County, it was number 2 behind Maseno School which was ranked 33rd nationally.
