Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a will issue the third disbursement of the Thika Education Trust Fund to learners from poor families in the area in October.

She said this on Monday after disbursing Sh18 million during the second round of the fund to students from the area who did not benefit from the first round.

Speaking to the press after the disbursement, the CDF Chairman Ephraim Njihia said that they have disbursed to students in all the levels of education and they hope to start registration afresh.

Njihia said that earlier in March they disbursed over Sh4 million from the Sh36 million set aside for the needy students adding that the number of applicants is increasing each year and thus more money needs to be set aside.

"More than 280 students have benefitted from the fund today, with 17 fully sponsored. We are targeting a much bigger number next time. We are also getting more supporters of the fund," he said.

He said that they are ready to support any child whose parents are unable to raise fees and vowed to support the needy to accesss education.

"There is nothing bigger than education that can be offered to a child," he added.

Njihia has also called on all the needy students who have not benefited to apply for the next disbursement immediately.
