A total of 214 self-help groups comprising of more than 3,000 members have received a total of Sh20,106,000 from the Revolving Fund kitty through Mombasa County Department of Youth, Gender and Sports.

The groups mainly comprised of youth, women and persons with disability from Mwakirunge (Kisauni), Kongowea (Nyali), Changamwe, Likoni & Jomvu Sub-counties.

According to Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, the funds which were awarded to successful applicants were meant to empower the groups in their activities within the county and enhance self-sustainability.

"To date 465 groups across all sub-counties have benefited from this kitty. We will continue to address unemployment in Mombasa through such initiatives," said the governor, Wednesday.

This comes after Joho held a successful breakfast meeting with the members of the business community and officials of the business association in Mombasa county, Tuesday.

The main objective of the meeting was to assess the impact of business reforms implemented by my government and recommend areas that need to be improved.

The business community acknowledged and appreciated the business reforms implemented and the open door policy adopted by County through the Department of Trade and Investment and Energy.

"We have committed to the business community to be responsive to their needs through continuous facilitation of the required business environment for the local business to thrive."

"We will continue to automate key processes geared towards enhancing the business environment within the county. This will lead to additional local capital for local business and attracting foreign investment within the county. Those in attendance endorsed my bid for a second term in office as governor," added Joho.
