Speaking during the event, Ms Ng'ang'a said that the bursaries had been issued to the most vulnerable students with day scholars getting Sh2,000 each while those in boarding schools got up to Sh8,000 each.

"Every student has been awarded on merit through assistance of a vetting committee constituted by representatives picked from each ward. Chiefs and their assistants also helped us in ensuring that the process was transparent and open," she said.

She thanked the parents for their cooperation with the the vetting committee and for making the program a success while requesting those who were unsuccessful in their applications to try next time, saying that is what her office could afford this time.

The MP however noted that students under Thika Education Trust Fund (Thetfu) who are fully sponsored received up to Sh30,000 to cater for all their school fees this year.

"Thetfu has proved to be very beneficial to many needy and bright students in this constituency whose fees we pay in full. This money is not from the CDF kitty and we collect it through harambees and donations because we realised that the CDF bursary allocation was so little to cater for all students who are in need," she said.

The MP also thanked the Equity Bank Foundation for sponsoring 30 students from the constituency through its Wings To Fly program.

Sh6 million in bursaries will be disbursed next term to cater for Form Ones, and those who missed out on technicality grounds, according to the lawmaker.
