The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) will on Thursday hold its fifth graduation ceremony.Fourteen students are expected to be awarded Masters Degrees, 1,076 Bachelors, 17 higher diplomas, 775 diplomas and 161 certificates, which totals to 2043 students. The graduation ceremony comes amid complaints about missing marks. Vice Chancellor Laila Abubakar has, however, said that students with missing marks have no reason to panic since the institution will present them with award letters once the issues are resolved. Abubakar said the institution’s Senate met and agreed to effect the changes after a section of students raised concerns over missing marks, adding that the students can use the letters to secure jobs anywhere."The Senate Board of Examiners sat twice to effect changes after missing names were brought to their attention," said Abubakar, as quoted by The Star. The VC also revealed that the chairman of the board is out of the country, a situation which has made it difficult for the issue to be addressed in time."But since the chairman of the board is out of the country, he could not come for the third time over the same issue," she added. The VC also said that the institution is contemplating on organising two graduation ceremonies per year as the number of students continues to increase with time.
