Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has raised concern over the high number of uncollected Identification cards in the county, despite calls for owners to pick them.
Achoki said over 2,800 residents from different parts of the county are yet to turn up at the office of the registrar to collect their IDs.
Several leaders from all over the nation have been urging Kenyans to collect their IDs in order to take part in the ongoing mass voter registration exercise that has entered its second week.
“We have uncollected ID cards because there are Kenyans who applied for the same but have not returned to check if they are out. Kindly visit the nearest chief offices so that you can be advised on how to get your identification card,” said Achoki, as quoted by Baraka FM.
The commissioner said the office of the register will attempt to reach out to the owners of the IDs using different channels including text messages and sending chiefs to their homes.
“We will send short messages to the owners of the IDs to come and pick them, if that fails, then chiefs will use their motorbikes to deliver the cards door to door,” he said.
The office of the registrar of persons has assured those seeking new IDs and replacements that they will get them in a period of less than one week upon application.
