Raila received the new ODM members at Orange House in Nairobi in an event attended by Governors Josephat Nanok (Turkana) and John Mrutu (Taita Taveta) and a host of opposition MPs.

Those who left the ruling party were drawn from the counties of Turkana, Kajiado, Samburu and Narok.

The event comes weeks after the Orange party clinched the Busiro Ward seat in Kajiado County- stamping its authority in a county deemed a Jubilee stronghold.

The new members assured the ODM party leader that they would campaign for the party ahead of the 2017 general elections.

They also said they would back Mr Odinga's presidential candidacy in 2017.

Raila on his part thanked they new members for returning to ODM.

He said ODM is the party that understands more problems bedeviling Kenyans.

"I appealed to Kenyans to close ranks and ensure Jubilee is defeated next year to save the country from collapse," Raila said.
