About 82 families were also left homeless at Moa Village owing to the ruthless floods ravaging the coast of Kenya. In Dide Waride, more than 30 houses were submerged in water. The road from Chalaluma to Moa is currently impassable and the area can only be accessed by boats or choppers.

The situation has continued to deteriorate as the region continues to receive heavy downpour.

On Friday, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa, who toured the area together with his Chief Administrative Secretary Hussein Dado, assured the residents that the government has enough relief for all the displaced families.

“Despite the situation being worse than El-Nino, the government has put all measures in place to respond to the disaster and emergency through the special program docket under my ministry,” Wamalwa said.

“I have toured all the affected counties assessing the situation together with the county governments to intervene and offer the necessary assistance,” the CS continued.

Wamalwa said that: "Already the metrological department has issued an alert that the rains will continue till June and the ministry is prepared already. There are 3 million bags of maize and rice in the national grain reserves for relief.”

Cs said the national government and county government will work together to coordinate interventions.
